A workshop full of useful, practical information to help you support your child who has recently started their learning journey.  You may not have a dyslexia diagnosis for them but may suspect something is not quite right. For instance, does your child:

  • find it difficult to remember the correct sound of a letter?
  • have trouble remembering what words look like?
  • read a word on one page and forget it on the next?
  • read and write letters or numbers backwards?
  • forget how to spell simple words?
  • find it hard to form letters and words when writing?
  • struggle to remember number facts?

The Aim

Age 6-8 is the stage where a pattern of difficulty starts to emerge and your input can be invaluable. This dyslexia workshop will help you understand why your child may be having these difficulties and how to support them.  I will clarify and explain the typical weaknesses found in dyslexic learners such as memory, sound processing, visual processing and motor co-ordination.

What this dyslexia workshop covers

Help with understanding

Why learning to read, spell, write and do maths may be hard. Why following instructions may be hard and copying from a board may be tricky.

Helpful technology

How to use available technology that can make learning fun, such as typing programmes, apps, reading, spelling programmes, and maths games.

Helping with anxiety

Anxiety starts to develop at this stage. Understanding its impact is key to supporting your child. 

Helping at home

How to practically support your child at home. For example:

  • writing frames to help with forming letters
  • multisensory ways to learn to read words
  • simple phonics using pictures so that the correct sounds attach themselves to the correct letter formations
  • fun ways to learn and remember spellings
  • colourful, engaging ways to learn important mathematical concepts such as number bonds, number facts etc.
